32 Kahikatea Road
Te Ore Ore, Masterton

Toilet, coffee, market (cash), mostly accessible, picnic area
Originally designed in the 1990s by Wairarapa garden designer Lyn Eglinton, the garden came with a solid framework of established plantings when it was purchased in 2014. Over the past decade, it has been lovingly developed by its current owners into a space that balances structure with softness, and formality with flow.
The garden’s owners are Lynn and James Todd. Lynn is a sculptor whose internationally exhibited work explores the wellbeing of the human condition and our connections with others and the natural world. Her artistic eye is evident throughout the property, not just in the design, but in the handcrafted sculptures thoughtfully placed throughout the garden.
Lynn’s studio will be open to visitors during the tour, offering a rare insight into the creative process behind her work.

Each area of the garden has its own mood and planting style, from a formal buxus maze to a shady glade, a kitchen garden, water iris pond, and a small vineyard. Special trees such as the Japanese Zelkova, Snowdrop Tree, and Tulip Tree add to the garden’s seasonal interest and botanical charm.
Lynn and James take a hands-on, traditional approach to gardening, focusing on sustainable practices such as composting, mulching, and careful pruning. Apart from the professional hedge trim and occasional help with large-scale tasks, the garden is maintained entirely by Lynn and James, a labour of love that blends artistry with practicality.
The Sculptor’s Garden continues to evolve as both a creative space and a place of quiet reflection — a sanctuary where nature and art come together in harmony.
