Luke continues to throw everything into the garden, opening new garden rooms for 2022 and once again hosting his tulip festival the first weekend in October – what a sight we are going to be looking forward to with over 6000 tulips in bloom! There will even be pots of Tulips for sale.
In the front of the cottage is the white garden, a formal yet calm space showcasing silver foliage and white flowers. Behind the cottage is the “cottage garden” a space devoted to classic cottage garden plants in soft pastel shades. Here you’ll find delphiniums, plenty of peonies, irises, aquilegias, lupins, early roses and classic cottage blooms. Beyond the house, the garden is laid out in a series of spaces each with a different theme of planting and colour combinations.

Hidden away, Luke has used a natural shady spot to plant ferns and other water and shade-loving species – a quiet and lovely place to reflect, the perfect use of nature. The working part of the garden includes vegetable beds, a cutting garden and Luke’s nursery where a selection of his favourite plants will be for sale. From the front of the house, the vista is stunning – a totara-lined hallway branches off to various rooms each with its own theme – my personal favourite is the lipstick garden. I know Luke will have new rooms to view this year – I’m not going to spoil the surprise of the themes though! The hallway path will eventually take you to the standing stone in the orchard and a stunning outlook of the pond and its island.
