Braemore Farm Garden
Growing this garden together, over 30 years, continues to be a great source of joy and satisfaction for Robyn and Warren Walker.
Braemore Farm Garden is an expansive, meandering country beauty. It begins with half a hectare of cottage garden surrounding the house and leads through open park-like green space with specimen trees – perfect to picnic beneath. Follow the paths out into the gully where there are rhododendrons-a-plenty.

Eketahuna
Inspired by the rhododendron festival in Taranaki many years ago, Warren decided Eketahuna may offer the perfect wet conditions to grow his own. Today, Braemore boasts about 500-600 species of Warren’s favourite flower. The Walkers are active members of the NZ Rhododendron Association and Warren enjoys successfully propagating unique specimen varieties.
Wander down the hill and across the bridge – admire the view across the water and climb again up through stunning conifer and spruce trees. A riot of colourful layers abounds below as you follow the path back towards the house.
To the west of the house is more garden – established natives, underplanted with hostas, mature Himalayan lilies and large-leaved rhododendrons.
Allow plenty of time to explore all the areas of this expansive garden. If you love rhodos, hydrangeas, azaleas, roses and the grand stature and form of mature trees you will enjoy exploring here.
Warren will be selling a selection of his unique specimen rhododendrons and hydrangeas. Cash only.
Bring a picnic and soak up the country air beneath the branches of Braemore’s mature trees.
